5 Days Old .... Mommy & Daddy's Anniversary!!

Lights Out!!

Good news!! I just got the call that we no longer have to use the light bed anymore!! Talitha's billirueben is down to 11.5 and she gained 3 oz in the past two days. I am so happy to have Talitha in my arms sleeping and I won't ever have to use that aweful bed again!

Our Little Glow Worm

I'm sorry I haven't had much time to get on the computer. I was up for a late night feeding at 1:00 am and had to eat a little myself so I am taking advantage of the time to reply to some long over due emails.

We have been so busy with dr. apts and nurses visits it's hard to do anything else other than care for Talitha right now. She has moderate level of jaundice and her billireuben count has been high so she is now on lights here at home. She has to be on the light bed nearly 24 hours a day except for feedings. She has been on for a little over 24 hours and I tell you the first 8 were so hard. I felt like the worst mommy in the world strapping my baby to a light box. I cried and cried. Noe was able to figure out how best to get her on slowly so she will be comfortable and not cry. We find it best too if I put her on directly after nursing when she is a little milk drunk and drouzy. Here is a couple photos of her taken day 2 and day 3.

Talitha Arrives May 22nd 2009 3:15 am

I'm sorry this is so past due. I had a very long 3 days of labor that wiped me out com pletely and I still don't have the energy to write about it, so I'm just going to say it was T O U G H. I'll write about that part another day.

So here she is.... I introduce Talitha Kumi Astorga Our Lil Sprout has arrived.

3:30am Only 15 minutes old.

Day 2 snug as a bug in the hand made blankie from Penny. It's very soft and snuggly!

Auntie Amy Came to help out. She stayed with us from Sunday through Monday (memorial day) and she has been an incredible help with everything!!! I honestly don't know how I'm going to do it all when she is gone.
Grandma & Grandpa Pritchard came up to meet her.

At the hospital we were all very tired. It had been a long week. Labor started late Monday early Tuesday and we had her on Friday morning at 3:15 am.

Abuelita (little grandma) Marcial came to visit too.

Talitha is very opiniated already and I get expressions like this at times when something isn't just the way she prefers. Like how she takes her milk. = )

Blowing Bubbles

and yes she has a ton of hair!!
Here we are happy little Astorga family after 48 hours stuck in early labor with hard contractions and 8 hours hard labor.

All Done Painting

Noe finished painting the nursery yesterday.. well all but one more caterpillar. I like the caterpillar the best and I wanted another one but we ran out of time. I love all the bugs and butterflies. I really think he did a great job painting the room! Now all we need is the baby.

Painting The Nursery

(The pictures go in order from bottom to top. It took to long to upload them so I'm just going to leave it how it is.)

I thought I'd post some progress pictures of the nursery since we have no further updates on the baby coming. She's still in there and seems to be happy where she's at.

For the nursery we chose a garden theme with lots of flowers and bugs. We like lady bugs, caterpillars, butterflies, and dragonflies. No spiders. Noe has been working hard when ever he has extra time to get it completed before my sister comes to stay. She'll be here on Sunday with her husband and our 17 mo. old nephew.

I'll post more pictures of the nursery when it's done.

A Mini-Watermelon?? It's time NOW before it's to late!!

I always thought it was kind of just a funny joke when people would compare giving birth to trying to squeeze something the size of a watermelon out the hole the size of a lemon. Apparently there is more truth to that than I thought. Babycenter.com compares the size of 39 week old Talitha to the size of a mini-watermellon. Um.... Yiiikes!!

And what could be worse than that.... How about in one more week she'll be the size of a small pumpkin at 40 weeks. We better have this baby soon before it's too late and she's too big to get out anymore.

Dr. Visit Update

My hands are too puffy to type this all over again so I'm just going to copy it out of an email I wrote. Here is the update for the dr. visit we went to yesterday:

The dr. visit went great yesterday and everything seems to be just fine. Talitha is measuring 7.5 lbs (give or take a pound for accuracy) and we are in the normal range for the amniotic fluid. I think maybe the reason I measured big that day was because a different midwife measured me and maybe her measurements were a little off. I got to see Talitha practice breathing in the womb, and that was pretty amazing to see. The ultrasound tech said that means her lungs are fully formed and she is ready for birth and will be just fine breathing on her own outside now. The lungs are the last major organ to form in the womb and once that happens the baby could be born at anytime and be completely healthy and survive with out any assistance or intervention to help her along. The dr. was a little worried about my recent swelling and an increase in blood pressure though. We did a test for
preeclampsia and found that it was negative. I was praying that test turn out negative so I was very relieved when it did. I do have a lot of swelling and am now stuck with flip flops for the remainder of the pregnancy. I tried buying shoes yesterday and either they weren't comfortable or just too expensive to buy only to wear a couple weeks. I don't think my feet have grown any at all they are just really really puffy.

See Photo Of Puffer In Next Post ... That's about how I'm looking these days.

I Feel Like A Puffer Fish

This photo pretty much sums up how I've been feeling the past couple days. Sunday morning I woke up and the only shoes that fit were last summer's flip flops. I went out yesterday and tried to find some flats that fit and the only ones that weren't way over priced for a pair of shoes that are only going to fit for a month are flip flops. Good thing it's spring and hopefully it stops raining soon!

38 Weeks

Here is what babycenter.com has to say Talitha's progress at 38 weeks.

How your baby's growing:

Your baby has really plumped up. She weighs about 6.8 pounds and she's over 19 1/2 inches long. She has a firm grasp, which you'll soon be able to test when you hold her hand for the first time! Her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb.

Woo Hoo!! Talitha hear that... Ready for life outside the womb. Come on out, the weather's fine!!
